WSOP Satellites

Each year the $10,000 Main Event is filled with thousands of satellite winners. Poker sites are very busy with months leading up to the World Series of Poker and are running countless WSOP satellites. I think it was something like 2,000 seats were given away through PokerStars last year alone.

There are pros and cons of using major online poker sites (PokerStars and Full Tilt) as your satellite provider. The biggest con is that you will rarely see any added value, which means that it's a true satellite. Ex. the buy-in is $100+$10fee for a total of $110 and you play to win a $13,000 WSOP prize package. Most likely this satellite tournament will be filled up with 130 players, due to the large player base on Full Tilt and PokerStars. With a 130 players entered that is $14,300 in total buy-in and poker site is paying out one $13,000 prize package, which means they are profiting $1,300! The main advantage of entering satellites on major sites is that they are constantly running. You won't have to wait for a certain day to play a satellite since they are nearly available around the clock.

Medium size sites like Everest Poker, Betfair Poker and LuckyAce Poker offer guarantee WSOP satellites. When sites guarantee "X" amount of seats to be paid out in a satellite, you have a chance to pick up some value (+EV). Ex. Since the player volume is a bit lower, there is a good chance the satellite will not fill up. Say you pay $110 total to enter a $13,00 WSOP prize package satellite, but only 100 players enter, that totals up to $11,000. Which means that the poker site is dishing out $2,000 of their own money because they guaranteed the satellite.

Currently, I've been telling players to play the Everest Poker satellite tournaments. The main reason is because Everest Poker is the official World Series of Poker sponsor and satellite provider. They are technically the only site that has the permission of the WSOP to offer satellites to their events. Also Everest Poker is guaranteeing X amount of seats each tournament they run.

Cake Rakeback Gets a New home

Earlier this week I received an email from Cake Poker saying this:

Hi Aidan,

It has just come to our attention that you are using cake in your URL. This is a violation of our terms and conditions and we would like you to discontinue using it. We are generally very lenient when people use our name in their url’s but we feel that people may think we are offering Rakeback to players and not letting only affiliates offer it.

Can you please confirm that you received this email and what the timeline is for your to change your url.

Thats not exactly the kind of email that I like to wake up to. Although we had no idea that this was against Cake's T&C's. A lot of poker sites will allow affiliates to use their brand name within a domain and many are uber strict about the use of their domain like Everest Poker. Cake falls somewhere in between. So we ended up changing our mini rakeback site that was formally named Cake-Rakeback.com to Rakebackbonus.net.

We were at fault and we took no time switching the domain name. Jim, my business partner, was able find a new domain, create a new hosting account, transfer the site and do all that fun stuff within a few days. Good job Jim! It's not an easy task switching domains. Because you also have to change all your email addresses keep a hosting account and forward the old email addresses to the new ones and many little things like that.

Since Cake Poker is one of our highest monthly earners, we did what they asked in a timely fashion without any questions. Always gotta keep the people that pay you happy ;)

Now that Cake-Rakeback.com has a new domain, one can expect a new design here shortly.

WSOP Promotions – Duplicate Poker

I will be posting some of the best World Series of Poker promotions that online poker rooms will be running. A normal package includes a Main Event seat, plus travel and accommodation money. Usually, the packages are worth around $12,500. Each year I would guess that half the entrants at the WSOP Main Event won their seat online. PokerStars alone sent nearly 2000 players.

Duplicate PokerThe first promotion that every one should take advantage of is at Duplicate Poker. This is definitely the best WSOP promo a player will find online. I'm not joking or over exaggerating at all here. Duplicate Poker is giving away 6 seats in 6 different tournaments.

To receive an entry into all the events a player must click my special promo link and deposit a minimum of $50. Then earn 100 player points. Players will also receive a 200% deposit bonus as well.

Special Promo Link to Duplicate Poker here

Duplicate Poker is a bit different than your regular Texas Hold'em tournament. All the rules are the same as Texas Hold'em except it's in a skill based tournament format. Which means, is that there are several people sitting in your seat at a different table. Each table is dealt the exact same cards with same flop, turn and rivers.

Even though its a bit different, its still worth six shots at a Main Seat package. My buddy Jackson Anderson (yes he has two last names and looks like Jack Black) won a seat to the PokerNews Cup in Austrailia, from Duplicate Poker. His seat package was worth over $5,000 and he only had to beat out 40 other people.

I expect each one of these tournaments to have very few entrants in comparison to the prize. Which makes this a +EV promotion.

Below are the dates of each tournament:
16 Mar 2008, 13:05 EST (GMT -5) - 1st Place wins a $12,500 WSOP Package
03 Apr 2008, 8:05 EST (GMT -5) - 1st Place wins a $12,500 WSOP Package
13 Apr 2008, 13:05 EST (GMT -5) - 1st Place wins a $12,500 WSOP Package
03 May 2008, 13:05 EST (GMT -5) - 1st Place wins a $12,500 WSOP Package
01 Jun 2008, 13:05 EST (GMT -5) - 1st Place wins a $12,500 WSOP Package

And I said hey, What’s Going on?

If you have tried to visit ajw.ca yesterday or earlier today, you would have noticed it was down. I had some sort of server/wordpress error after my hosting company upgraded their servers. Everything seems fine now.

Right now my biz partner and I are working on a Everest Poker mini site. Everest Poker is already one of the biggest and most known poker rooms in the world, and they will continue to grow. Especially since they are the official sponsor of this years World Series of Poker. Previously Party Poker was the official sponsor. Also, we have been going through poker-prop.net and updating all the reviews with current promo's and information. This is a big duty as some of the not-so-popular poker rooms reviews are outdated.

Other than that, I have been working on getting my paper work and taxes in order. Wow I wish I kept my files more organized. I've heard the best way to go about it, is to print off and record every transaction as soon as it happens and put it in a folder. This way your not worrying about spreadsheets, lost receipts, etc. Just at the end of the year fill in the little areas on the tax sheet and you're good to go.

To get ready for the good weather, Lindsay and I purchased a couple mountain bikes. Hopefully will get a lot of time and do some trail riding around Edmonton. Both bikes were 07 models, so we got a lot taken off sticker price.
